GA 221
The 221st meeting of the General Assembly was held in Detroit, MI, June 14-21, 2014. The 221st General Assembly made many significant decisions on a wide range of issues, including passing the HRP originated overture on preventing gun violence. The Office of the General Assembly has provided a summary overview in "Assembly in Brief - 221 General Assembly (2014)."
At the conclusion of the Assembly Ruling Elder Heath Rada and Teaching Elder Larissa Kwong Abazia (newly elected moderator and vice-moderator of the 221st GA respectively) together with Gradye Parsons, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly and Linda Valentine, Executive Director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency, sent this letter about the 221st GA to the church.
Special resources have been provided to the church regarding the Assembly's decisions about same gender marriage and divestment. PC(USA) leadership has sent a Pastoral Letter and prepared a Frequently Asked Questions on Same Gender Marriage document. The Office of the General Assembly has prepared a Frequently Asked Questions: Middle East Issues, which includes the full text of the resolution on divestment and the measure regarding a two-state solution. On June 26, 2014, the Moderator of the 221st General Assembly, the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly, and the Executive Director of the Presbyterian Mission Agency of the PC(USA) issued an Open Letter to Our Jewish Interfaith Partners.
You can read and watch dispatches from the GA that were prepared by HRP's commissioners, YAAD, overture advocates, staff and friends on our blog HudRivPres at 221 GA.

Overture Concerning Gun Violence Prevention
AFFIRMED by GA 221
While this overture was overwhelmingly supported in committee the authors and the committee decided not to put it on the consent agenda (where it would join other non-controversial items to be voted on as a group, without discussion, either affirmatively or negatively). By bringing it to plenary the committee and originators hoped to advance conversations about gun violence within the church, which is one of the core provisions of the overture itself.
